Paranormal Activity:
Paranormal Activity is a supernatural film which was directed by Tod William, the film is a sequel of Paranormal Activity. The trailer initiates with a the non-diegetic sound of a heart beat supplemented by a black screen, in contrast to a significant amount of horror trailers, this trailer goes straight into disequilibrium (when the man is thrown against the screen), this contradicts conventions of horror as most horror trailers follow a period of equilibrium before progressing into disequilibrium, this is efficient and effective because it makes the audience jump and creates suspense which as a result engages them with the trailer. (Todorov) This is achieved by using a variety of jump cuts and fast pace scenes which would place the audience in a more uncomfortable position.

Furthermore, paranormal activity further challenges conventions by showing an audience in a cinema this plants the viewer in the context as most people in society are cinema goers, this challenges conventions as most trailers concentrate more on specific contents in trailers rather than the general effect that it would have on an audience. Additionally, the recorder used has been contrasted to blue, which could be linked in with CCTV cameras; this could suggest that the house is genuinely haunted as the function of CCTV cameras is to catch implicit images.
